Start by protecting what cannot leave. Separate documents, valuables, medication, keys, keepsakes, and undecided items before you build the removal scope.

Measure the furniture

Record width, depth, and height at the largest fixed points. For sofas and chairs, include arms, feet, and the angle needed to pass through a doorway.

Find the narrowest opening

Measure the clear width after accounting for the door, hinges, trim, railings, and handles. A door opening can be smaller than the frame suggests.

Map stairs and turns

Record stair width, landing depth, ceiling height, and the direction of each turn. Photograph the full approach rather than only the final doorway.

Identify disassembly limits

Note removable legs, leaves, shelves, mirrors, or headboards. Do not assume glued, upholstered, antique, or built-in pieces can be safely broken down during an ordinary pickup.
