Start by protecting what cannot leave. Separate documents, valuables, medication, keys, keepsakes, and undecided items before you build the removal scope.
Bedrooms and closets
Check pockets, handbags, nightstands, jewelry boxes, under-bed storage, and the top shelves of closets. Remove medication for appropriate handling and keep private papers secure.
Living and dining spaces
Review framed photographs, display cabinets, drawers, books, and small decorative objects before deciding on large furniture. Empty cabinets and mark pieces that must remain.
Basement, attic, and garage
Expect mixed materials and older containers. Photograph unknown liquids, fuel, propane, paint, chemicals, or sealed drums and ask the proper local program how to handle them. Do not add them to an ordinary debris pile.
Final property walk
Open every closet and cabinet, check behind doors, and compare the finished rooms with the keep list. A last walk by the authorized decision maker should happen before the final load leaves.
