Start by protecting what cannot leave. Separate documents, valuables, medication, keys, keepsakes, and undecided items before you build the removal scope.

Measure the new space

Start with the destination. Record room sizes, storage limits, doorway widths, and any building rules. This turns downsizing into a concrete fit question.

Build the move inventory

List the furniture, daily-use items, documents, medication, mobility equipment, clothing, and personal objects that will go to the new home. Pack and label these before removal work begins.

Give family decisions a deadline

Set a date for relatives to choose and collect items. Mark anything reserved with the person’s name and remove it from the active work zone when possible.

Schedule around the move

The cleanout should follow the essential move, not compete with it. Confirm elevator times, parking, keys, and who will be present at both properties.
